Fresh from California: Menu Planning Support Session #1

Fresh from California: Menu Planning Support Session #1
About this Series
Looking for new ideas for your menus? Over the course of Spring 2022, the Center for Ecoliteracy hosted monthly menu planning support sessions in partnership with LunchAssist for our Fresh from California campaign. These informal group discussions were designed to support school nutrition professionals in plant-forward menu planning. Agendas were centered around local procurement, freshly prepared meals, menu/recipe considerations, navigating special diets, and much more to incorporate fresh fruits, vegetables, and legumes into school menus. Each session is intended for California school nutrition directors and school district menu planners.
About this Session
Designed to support school nutrition professionals in plant-forward menu planning, this session highlights recipes that incorporate international flavors and culturally diverse cuisines along with inspiration for National Nutrition Month celebrations.

Great work!Good for you, Eric. I hope you had fun and had someone listen to YOU!Eric you elevate your team well, thank you for sharing!!!So thoughtful and inspiring Eric!!Thank you Pilar! Love food hubs!So helpful to see how to make local purchasing more accessible even when there’s not a lot of options in your county. Thanks, Pilar!Question for Pilar on micropurchasing: is the $50,000 limit per farm or per order? In other words, can you order $50,000 multiple times from the same farm or only once per year per farm?My understanding is that the $50,000 refers to products, not to vendors. So if you are going to spend $100,000 on local citrus you can't use multiple farmers using micropurchasing.Yay Sierra Harvest!the amount is an aggregate value and you can not go over $50,000 per farmer. I would check with your CNC because I have learned there is not always consistent thoughts on using Micro Purchases for crops.Excellent advice, Stephanie.Sally, couldn't you use a opportunity bid for the citrus which would allow you to use multiple vendors?I think that is a district interpretation of "perishable."Awesome job Kat !!!Amazing job fostering partnerships and advocating for your program, Kat! It’s incredible to see what’s possible with so many community connections.Thank you!
